The Engineered Choice
A street lamp system that has proven itself, storm after storm.
When a hurricane-prone area invests in solar power, it needs to be an asset that will keep reaping dividends, no matter how extreme the weather is. Installing a solar panel onto a pole adds a wind-shear challenge. By using mono-crystalline panels, high-wind top-of-pole solar panel racks, adjusting pole thickness, and burial method, Solar Lighting International can guarantee systems with a proven track record during Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Dorian, with zero pole or solar lighting system failures. We develop the epitome of durability and performance in our industry, and we are committed to building the best solar LED lighting available while listening to the needs and wants of our clients.
Engineered to stand when the grid goes down, and keep the lights on after the storm passes.
Built for the worst conditions
The Ultimate Hurricane-Resistant Light Design
Built to keep the lights on through the storm.
Every hurricane-resistant configuration is engineered against the three harshest coastal elements: water, wind, and salt, so critical lighting keeps working when it matters most, providing coverage for rescue crews and a faster recovery after a disaster.

- Monocrystalline solar panels resistant to flying debris.
- Hardened mounting brackets support the solar panel in wind gusts.
- Ventilated lights prevent water accumulation and keep functioning throughout the storm.
- Improved waterproofing: all connectors sealed to protect the circuits in driving rain.
Why Our Lights Are Better
Fed up with the industry, we went back to the drawing board.
Our Research and Design Center in Lancaster, SC re-engineered the luminaire, the panel, and the charge controller from the ground up, for more light, more power, and longer life in the harshest climates.
A Better Light
Optimized LED configurations and lighting spread deliver the best coverage with the least power draw. We use Phillips 190 lumen-per-watt LED chips, offer a wide array of light colors to match existing installations and reduce driver eye-strain, and add ventilation that prevents overheating while discouraging dust deposits. Backed by a comprehensive warranty on the entire luminaire, whether you need 10 systems or 1,000. No auxiliary power and no trenching required; our lights work 100% off-grid.
A Better Panel
In ocean-front installations, water, wind, and salt are the three harshest elements. We chose a monocrystalline panel that is extremely resistant to high winds, then pair it with a pole and mounting bracket designed to hurricane specifications. Next-generation engineering provides up to 50% more power per unit area while maintaining a lowered voltage-temperature coefficient, so the panels collect electricity from the first hint of sunrise to the last moment of sunset, and won’t be easily eclipsed by a “newer, better” light.
A Patented Charge Controller
Our charge controller uses patented MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) charging technology, increasing charge current by up to 30% over conventional solar charge controllers: more power for less cost. That added current capacity lets us better manage, store, and conserve energy, getting the most out of each solar panel. We can also network up to 8 controllers together so they communicate and act as a single controller, ideal for Smart City Technology.
Stealth Street & Parking Lot Models
Our street lamp systems for parking lots and highways come in many options: from 7,400 lumens up to our 22,200-lumen standard fixtures. Every model can be upgraded to a hurricane-resistant configuration.

Whether you are a relief agency, a contractor, a municipality, or a small business, our lamps work in parking lots, on busy highways, and in critical beachfront locations. No trenching is required: only install and deliver light where you need it, which is reassuring in disaster-stricken or remote regions. When you contact us, please specify a hurricane-resistant configuration; we make several important upgrades: stronger 180 mph-rated poles, a monocrystalline PV panel, stronger mounting brackets, and specific solar light models proven to work well in these conditions.
