The most
cost-effective
light, long term.

Solar LED lighting draws its power from the sun instead of the power company, cutting your total energy bills. LED fixtures burn brighter and last up to 10 years longer than traditional lighting, delivering greater reliability and lower maintenance costs.

Stays On All Night

The best solar lights stay on all night without dimming, and keep working through winter and extreme cold. Reliability you can specify, in any climate.

No Utility Bills

Solar lighting draws its power from the sun, not the power company. No trenching, no utility connection, and no monthly electricity bill.

Low Maintenance

LED eliminates the recurring cost of bulb replacement, extending fixture life. The only upkeep is an occasional panel cleaning with soap and water.

Brighter LED Output

High-quality LED chips burn brighter and last far longer, and their output is measured in lumens, the true unit of light, not watts.

One sealed system (panel, battery, and LED) engineered to light for decades, off the grid.

All-in-one solar lighting

Watts measure power. Lumens measure light.

Customers often ask what determines how bright a fixture is. For years, brightness was associated with watts, but a watt is a unit of energy consumption, not light. The brightness of a solar LED light is measured in lumens: the more lumen output, the brighter the fixture.

LED lights are rated in lumens per watt, and chip quality changes everything. A low-quality chip at 50 lumens per watt driven by 100 watts produces about 5,000 lumens. A high-quality chip at 100 lumens per watt on the same 100 watts produces roughly 10,000 lumens, the same power delivering double the light.

What to consider before choosing a solar light

Every project is different. These are the factors our engineers weigh to select the right model for your site, application, and budget.

01

Runtime

Do you need light all night, or only until midnight and again before people arrive? Runtime has a direct cost, longer operation means more batteries and solar panels. Our Stealth II line runs all night without dimming, even through winter, when a location receives about half the charging sun hours it gets in summer.

02

Battery Backup

Three days of dusk-to-dawn backup is plenty for most projects. Jumping to 5 to 7 days raises the price significantly for power you might use once or twice a year, and systems still charge somewhat on cloudy days. If the sun is out 80% of the time, the extra reserve usually isn’t worth it.

03

The Right Amount of Light

Many cities have illumination codes and safety standards. SLI uses IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) guidelines, RP-33 for exterior environments and parking, RP-8 for roadways, and can provide a photometric site plan to submit to your local authorities for approval.

04

Pole Height & Type

We offer steel, fiberglass, and aluminum poles, straight, square, and round, including options built for high-wind environments. We’ll help you find the best turnkey pole-and-fixture combination for your budget.

05

Color Temperature

LED color ranges from 1500K orange (low-pressure sodium) to 3000K warm white (high-pressure sodium), 4000K white (metal halide), and 5000K to 6000K+, where light takes on a cool blue hue. We help you choose the right temperature for the setting.

06

Engineer-Selected

Solar lights must be sized to the winter solar sun hours at the installation location, and every location is different. One of our lighting engineers can help select the correct model for your area, application, and budget.

Virtually maintenance-free.

The only upkeep a solar light needs is a clean solar panel. A bucket of water, a little Dawn soap, and a rag or squeegee keep your lights performing optimally, and can even help them charge on cloudy days.

How It Works

Sunlight in by day, reliable light out by night: no wiring required.

How to Clean Solar Lights

The only maintenance you must perform on a solar light is learning how to clean it. Cleaning a solar light panel is easy and can be done with a bucket of water, dish soap, and a rag or squeegee. This keeps your solar lights performing optimally and helps them charge even on cloudy days. Solar Lighting International has solar LED lighting solutions for most situations: city streets, walkways, major highways, parking lots, and other large areas. SLI’s systems are designed for commercial highway and street lighting and are the best commercial solar LED light. We will work with you to create a system suited to your situation and budget.

What must I consider before selecting the best solar light for my project?

Runtime: Do you need the light to operate all night, or just until midnight and again before people arrive in the morning? There is a direct cost associated with runtime: the longer the light operates, the more it may cost for extra batteries and solar panels. Our Stealth II commercial solar light product line has fixtures that operate all night without dimming, even in winter. Every location receives about half the solar-charging sun hours in winter compared to summer, so solar-powered lights must be selected based on the winter solar sun hours at the installation location. Our engineers can help select the correct model for your area and application.

Battery backup: Do you need 5–7 days of solar battery backup? Typically, three days of dusk-to-dawn backup is plenty for a reliable solar lighting project. A 5–7 day backup increases the price significantly while only adding a couple of days of power that may be used once or twice a year. If the sun is out 80% of the time, you probably don’t need to spend the extra money.

Appropriate amount of light: Many cities have lighting requirements to meet illumination standards and codes for safety. SLI has extensive experience in lighting codes and design requirements, and we use IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) guidelines for all applications. Guideline RP-33-99 (Lighting for Exterior Environments) is the standard SLI uses for parking lots, and the RP-8 street-light design guide is the industry standard for roadway lighting. We can provide a site lighting plan or photometric report to submit to your local authorities for approval.

Height and type of pole: We offer a variety of light poles to meet your project requirements: steel, fiberglass, and aluminum streetlight poles (straight, square, and round) including poles engineered for high-wind environments. We will help you find the best turnkey solar light pole solution for your budget.

Color temperature: LED color temperature ranges from 1,500K (an orange low-pressure-sodium look), to 3,000K warm white, to 4,000K white metal-halide, to 5,000K and 6,000K+ where the light takes on a light-blue hue. Our engineers will help you choose the right color temperature for your site.
