Since 2004, Solar Lighting International has been installing solar street lamps around the globe. We’re pleased to now be able to deliver our street lamps to Uganda.
Many cities are finding solar street lamps to be a simple solution for adding more lighting. Local safety, tourism, and commerce can all instantly improve with the installation of a street light. Since no power source is needed, these lights can be installed anywhere there is reliable sunlight. We also partner with cities that are looking to upgrade their existing lights to a more environmentally-friendly option.

A better light, panel, and controller
A Better Light
Our street lights rely on the Philips >190 lumen-per-watt LED chips. We find this chip delivers excellent brightness while only requiring a minimal power draw. This Stealth light design incorporates all of the components into one unit, which means the light head can easily be installed as a replacement for existing street lamps. These lamps come in three standard configurations: 7,400, 14,800, and 22,200 lumens.
A feature of our Stealth series is the double built-in motion detectors, offering detection up to 15 meters on each side of the light: a great way to conserve power consumption while still offering light when it’s needed. There are several ways you can program the sensors. Default Mode automatically operates at 50% brightness, dusk to dawn. In Sensor Mode, when motion is detected the light increases to 100% until no motion is detected, then returns to 30% brightness. This lets our lights be used in low-light conditions and perform at optimal levels during cloudy weeks. The housing has ventilation added to ensure the internal components have good airflow and remain cool during operation.
A Better Panel
All of our lights use a monocrystalline solar panel. The monocrystalline panel is more effective at converting sunlight into electricity: thanks to this design, we can generate up to 50% more power per unit area. The other advantage is that they have proven to be very resilient in our installations around the globe. We are also able to access a lower voltage-temperature coefficient and generate more electricity even on the hottest days. This panel is fully integrated into the top of the street lamp, which helps protect the panel while letting us prewire it prior to shipment, allowing immediate installation upon delivery.
A Patented Charge Controller
The solar charge controller is needed to regulate how power is sent to the battery. What sets ours apart is that it uses a patented MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) charging technology. MPPT lets us better modulate the power and increase the charging efficiency by up to 30% while continuing to prolong the battery lifespan. This added current capacity enables us to better manage, store, and conserve energy, which means you get the most out of each solar panel, so when night falls, you have reliable lighting, night after night.
